Assoc. Pastor Steve Winberry

Steve was raised in a minister's family in Northeast Arkansas and Central Illinois.  He graduated from Piggott High School in 1972.  After high school, he attended Arkansas State University and graduated from Oakland City University with a BA in Religious Studies in 1976.  Steve also attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, earning his Master of Divinity and Master of Religious Education Degrees.  In addition, he received a Master of Education degree from Arkansas State University.  Steve has pastored full-time churches in Kentucky and Arkansas.  Besides pastoral ministry, he has worked as a youth minister in Southeast Kentucky and Indiana.  He has also served part-time pastorates in Southeast Missouri.  Steve met and married Karen at the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church where they currently serve on staff.  They have been married for 36 years and have two grown sons, Aaron and Adam, both of whom are married.  The Winberrys have three grandsons and one granddaughter.  He received Christ at the age of twelve and was ordained as a General Baptist minister by the MOARK Presbytery in 1976.  Steve taught special education for 23 years and retired from teaching from Poplar Bluff School District in 2011.  He currently is working as a substitute teacher for  R-1 School District in Poplar Bluff.
Karen Winberry
Karen was raised in the church.  She and Steve met and married here in the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church (SPBGBC).  After their wedding, she moved to Louisville, KY to live and work while Steve went to seminary.  Karen graduated from high school in Poplar Bluff, went to junior college in Arkansas, and finished her education as a speech/language pathologist (SPL) at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO).  She served as a SPL in Kentucky, Arkansas and Missouri.  She has worked at Twin Rivers and retired from the Poplar Bluff School District.  Since retiring, she has worked as a substitute at Shady Grove and Crowley's Ridge Schools.
